熊本・阿蘇の地を歩く⑯「阿蘇神社」

文豪・夏目漱石は熊本での教師時代、
阿蘇神社を訪ねて句を詠んでいる。

「朝寒み白木の宮に詣でけり」
「秋風や梵字を刻す五輪塔」
「鳥も飛ばず二百十日の鳴子かな」

この体験が基になった小説「二百十日」
の中で、阿蘇神社に参拝する場面がある。

「とうとう阿蘇の社迄は漕ぎ付けた。
白木の宮に禰宜の鳴らす柏手が、森閑と立つ杉の梢に
響いた時、見上げる空から、ぽつりと何やら額に
落ちた。饂飩を煮る湯気が障子の破れから、吹いて、
白く右へ靡いた頃から、午過ぎは雨かなとも思われた」

時は、まさに二百十日の風雨に見舞われた
1899(明治32)年の9月1日。
神社の社務日記に記されている。
